Other Treatments
Cupping.
This stimulates the blood muscle layer to be drawn into the cup thereby
stimulating the blood circulation and the underlying musculature. In some cases,
the cup may be moved while the suction of skin is active, causing a regional
pulling of the skin and muscle (the technique is called gliding cupping). The cup
is usually left in place between 5-10 minutes. The skin will typically redden due
to the congestion of blood flow and will leave a round bruise which can remain
for up to a week. However, this procedure is painless and extremely
effective. All patients say that afterwards, they experience a feeling of
lightness and flexibility in the formerly painful area..
Tui Na (chinese massage)
Tui Na is a type of Chinese massage that is a combination of
acupressure, hand strokes, shaking and pulling techniques. The goal of
Tui Na is to restore normal life energy flow by using a combination of the
techniques mentioned above to stimulate the body’s natural self healing
abilities. Tui Na has been proven to be very effective in dealing with
backaches, migraine headaches, neck pain, eyestrain, sinus problems,
muscles aches and a host of other problems. It can also relive stress,
relax both the mind and body, increase blood circulation, and aid in the
removal of metabolic toxic waste.
Moxibustion.
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that utilizes
moxa or mugwort herb in combination with acupuncture to aid in the
healing of the body. When an acupuncture needle is inserted into the
body, the tip of the needle is then wrapped in moxa and ignited;
generating heat to the point and the surrounding area. After the desired
effect is achieved, the moxa is extinguished and the needle removed.
Herbal medicines.
There are a variety of ways herbal medicine can be administered, some
of these are raw form, which herb materials need to be boiled then
swallowed, powders/ granules which are simply added to warm water then
swallowed, Patent pills which are small round pills, Liquids which are
consumed as is, or herbal plasters which are applied directly on the skin.
There is also other methods which can be used but are not commonly
used outside of China mainland, these include intravascular
administration and point injections.
